Laundry in Ukraine may be seen differently since many homes don’t have clothes dryers. Imagine hanging soaking wet clothing onto lines on the balcony during the below freezing winter months! The marketplaces or bazaars are where a wide variety of products can be purchased and fresh Ukrainian foods can be sampled. These are also usually where the best prices can be found on clothing, cosmetics and much more.

Also, banks in Ukraine have alternative uses. Besides being the places where Ukrainians store their money, banks are where everyone must go to pay their utility bills in person. In addition, these bills have to be manually monitored by the users with the help of water, gas, and electric meters since there are no other notifications. They record their monthly usage, travel to banks to pay, and auditors stop by occasionally to make sure the numbers are accurate.

Furthermore, while the number of Ukrainian drivers is increasing, being a car owner is still mostly considered a luxury rather than a necessity. Those they do buy prefer foreign cars and have to pay a high price due to large import taxes. Most people use public transportation like trains, buses, taxis, or the subway. Many others just prefer to walk, which is one reason why so many Ukrainian women are in such great shape!
